About the event

The World Rugby Level 1 match officiating course is designed to equip individuals with the basic knowledge and skills required to officiate rugby matches at the grassroots level. This course serves as an entry-level for individuals who are interested in becoming rugby referees or match officials.

The course covers a wide range of topics, including the laws of the game, match management, communication, positioning, and decision-making. Participants will learn about the key principles and interpretations of the laws, including scrums, lineouts, breakdowns, and foul play. They will also gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a match official, including pre-match preparations, game control, and post-match analysis.

The Level 1 match officiating course consists of both theory and practical components. Participants will engage in classroom sessions, discussions, and interactive exercises to enhance their understanding of the laws and match officiating techniques. They will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge on the field through practical officiating sessions, where they will learn how to manage a game, make accurate decisions, and effectively communicate with players, coaches, and fellow officials.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a World Rugby Level 1 match officiating certificate, indicating their competence and readiness to officiate matches at the grassroots level. This certification opens up opportunities for individuals to gain further experience and progress to higher levels of match officiating.

Overall, the course provides individuals with a solid foundation in match officiating principles and techniques. It equips them with the necessary skills to confidently and effectively officiate rugby matches, ensuring fair play, safety, and an enjoyable experience for all participants.

World Rugby covers Rugby Union and although key elements are similar, this does not cover Touch or other variations of officiating.
