National team game cancelled

Due to current politcal tensions our first National team appearance is put on hold

It is with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the international friendlies between Oman UAE and Lebanon

Due to the worsening security situation, the Lebanon team's application for UAE visas was no longer guaranteed.

Whilst we discussed moving the matches to Oman, another consideration was the likelihood of all commercial air travel being cut off.

So the Lebanese team could have their flights cancelled without warning before the event, or be stuck in the UAE/Oman with no quick way to get home.

Whilst this is very disappointing for all the selected players and the volunteers, please spare a thought for those who are effected in a far more direct way.

Being inconvenienced from playing a game pales in comparison to being caught up in an armed conflict, and so we should be grateful we live in one of the most secure and stable countries in the world.

Oman Rugby have had a great trial run for a national selection procedure and preparing for an international match.

I would like to express my thanks to the director of rugby, Brian Hopkins, who put together a well thought out process at very short notice.

I would also like to thank all the volunteers who offered to help Oman Rugby, and spread the work load.
